Rose's New House and Happy Birthday Bonne Nuit Designs!

Such news! Bonne Nuit Designs is turning one this winter!

It was during the time between New Year's and April of last year, that Bonne Nuit Designs was born. Winter evenings and weekends were spent cozied up on the couch in the library of our home with my sewing machine at work on the coffee table and boxes of fabrics and pins and prototypes scattered around me. I had an unpleasant day job, and creating was my way of coping and developing new forms of work. I had always made art, and knew that winter that I wanted to make art dolls.

By winter's end, Francine (brown hair) and Rose (both below) had become the first, after many prototype dolls, or doll puppets, as I sometimes refer to them, who reflected my own personal style and the kinds of characters that I wished to be creating.

Now, one year, one book, and one public exhibit later, many new characters provide good company to Rose and Francine and myself in the new Bonne Nuit Designs studio, which no longer occupies our home's couch space : )

Rose is now in the midst of renovating an old home that she has recently purchased. The carpenters have much yet to do, but it was tidy enough to welcome everybody to a Bonne Nuit Designs birthday celebration this week!

Rose made lovely decorations...

and socca...

and quince cream cake,

and sent for calissons from Aix-en-Provence, France.

All the dollies came

and enjoyed delightful conversation.

Even the moon found herself enjoying a cup of tea.

It was a good time had by all,

with more pictures than I can show in this one post! So, I'll be back soon to share more!

I hope you've enjoyed the festive atmosphere here of celebrating one year. Thanks for taking a peek at what I do throughout the year : )

UPDATE: I have posted additional photos from the party in the next (more recent) post. You can see them here. : )
